Lactulose – Mannitol Test – Leaky Gut 

This is a lab test for an intestinal permeability assessment.
Nutrient absorption happens in the small intestines as well.  Increased permeability of the small intestines will allow large molecules and unwanted compounds entering the bloodstream.  Increased intestinal permeability is also known as Leaky Gut.

Symptoms of Leaky Gut can manifest in the entire body:

• Fatigue and brain fog
• Food Allergies
• Eczema
• Psoriasis
• Acne
• Autoimmune diseases
• Weight gain
• Joint pain
• Arthritis
• Inflammation
• Bloating
• Abdominal pain
• IBS
• IBD

Decreased intestinal permeability manifests as malabsorption.  This test will also check for malabsorption.

Malabsorption can lead to malnutrition and failure to thrive.

Leaky Gut Panel is a six hour urine collection test.  The client will drink a premeasured amount of lactulose and mannitol.  The level of lactulose and mannitol recovered will determine intestinal permeability.
